Travis Smith

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. —Illini Center Chicago, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign’s advancement offices on South Wacker Drive, will be led by Travis M. Smith. As the new Senior Director of Advancement, Smith’s primary duty is to promote fundraising among the campus’ 125,000 Chicagoland alumni. Chicagoland is the largest alumni and donor market for the campus. Smith will also serve as Senior Director of Development for the University of Illinois Foundation.

Smith’s experience with the Oregon State University Foundation’s satellite office in Portland, Ore., his collaborative nature and his successful major gift experience made him an ideal candidate for this important leadership position, said Dan Peterson, the Vice Chancellor for Institutional Advancement on the Urbana-Champaign campus.

“We are delighted Travis is joining the Illinois family and look forward to his strategic guidance of our Chicago office,” he said.

Smith will join the office on July 8, soon after he and his family make their transition to Chicago. “I look forward to engaging with our outstanding alumni and advancing the mission of the University of Illinois in the great city of Chicago. This is an extremely important market for the university, and I’m excited to start meeting with and getting to know Chicago area Illini,” said Smith.

For the past six years, Smith worked for the Oregon State University Foundation where he served most recently as Director of Development for the Oregon State College of Business. Prior to his time at Oregon State, Smith spent over four years as a Director with the March of Dimes.

Smith is a graduate of the University of Oregon where he earned a bachelor of science in business administration.
